WHERE TO START

1.     If you are going to build the dollhouse yourself, I recommend using 9mm MDF wood and 3-6mm MDF for the back.  Make sure you have bought all your doors and windows for accurate templates for cutting out.  You may not be able to get the same doors and windows later down the track.  You can always make the cut-outs bigger, but not smaller.

2.     Paint: It is a lot easier if you paint before you assemble.  If you want your dollhouse to be handed down the generations, paint with good quality household interior or exterior paint.  I like to paint the inside white so you have a blank canvas to start your decoration and leave the ceiling white.
Do not use sample pots or craft paints as they are not suitable for wood.
Painting wooden doors and windows can be tricky.  In most cases you can slide out the window panes for easier access.  Paint should be thin where the window slides up and down.  Do not apply thick paint where the joins are, as you can always touch-up after assembly.

3.     Assemble:  As you put the dollhouse together, use PVC glue in the joins, then screws to make the whole dollhouse stand up to rough handling.

4.     Wallpaper:  If you are using dollhouse papers do not use quick drying craft glues, or you will end up with bubbles and a mess.  I recommend using wallpaper paste or decoupage clear finish.  Seal the wood first and apply wallpaper paste to the wall and back of the paper.  This allows plenty of slip so you can spread the glue and match the patterns.  Do not rub the dollhouse papers too hard or you will rub off the pattern.

5.     Lights:  See lighting instructions below.  If you are going to light your house, then it is a good idea to make a false floor to hide your wire under.  The false floor also allows you to maintain the wiring incase it breaks or needs replacing.  I use thin Masonite as it is easy to cut.  Paint the Masonite and paste your flooring to it.

6.     Trims & Floors:  After the flooring is cut, you can put your shirking boards in.  The false floor will then fit under the shirking boards for easy removal.

LIGHTING YOUR DOLLHOUSE

Working 12 volt light are to be used on a 12 volt transformer only (10 w for appox. 16 bulbs or 20 w for 64 blubs)

Before installing your miniature lights, make sure they work.

1.     Plug all lights into power strip.

2.     Plug transformer into power strip and turn on.  Keep transformer away from fabrics and flammable materials

3.     If lights not working. Carefully unscrew the shades and tighten the light bulbs.
Lights are very delicate so a light touch is needed.

4.     When ready to install – use a small pair of pliers to take off the pins at the plug and push up and down to expose the two copper wires.

5.     Drill very small holes to thread the wiring through the ceiling and at the back of the dollhouse.  Usually in the centre of the room, up under the next floor’s floor coverings and at the base of the wall at the back of the room.

6.     Reconnect the copper wire into the plug using your pliers with the small end of pins.  Strip the wire with your finger nails to expose more wire and twist if necessary.

7.     Reconnect to the power stip.

8.     Connect your transformer and enjoy.

9.     Please note any surge in power may blow the globes or the fuses.  We do not replace parts under these circumstances.

Please note all shades and globes are replaceable.

If you still cannot make the light works, you can send them back with proof of purchase for replacements.
